Dental Clinic
As we all know, dental pain can be horrible; so MIDC is makes sure that the patient can be in contact with the dentist as any time. There is nothing worse than being up all night with a toothache and not being able to call a dentist. For that reason, we are handling emergencies outside office hours.
There are many conditions that necessitate immediate clinical visits and cannot be delayed until having an appointment after a day or even several hours, among which are:
Patient Complaints
Emergency Treatment Visit
Acute
Pulpitis
Severe pain with cold application.
Part of the inflamed vital nerve will be removed from inside the tooth under anaesthesia
Apical
Periodontitis
Intolerable pain with touching the tooth preventing chewing or closing the mouth.
The nerve should be removed under a heavy dose of anaesthesia. However slight discomfort may persist during the procedure but it fades soon.
Acute
Abscess
Swelling of the face related to the affected tooth which is tender to knocking and has some mobility
The rotted and vital nerve tissues will be removed under anaesthesia to allow evacuation of deep pus through the canal. This decreases pressure and relieve pain. Antibiotics should be administered as soon.
Avulsed
(Knocked Out)
Tooth
Tooth that comes out from its socket. You should put the tooth under your tongue or in a glass of milk and call for an emergency appointment as soon
If the natural tooth is found; it will be replanted (The dentist will put it back in place and splint it).
If the natural tooth is not found; animmediate implant is the treatment of choice
Intruded
Tooth
Tooth that is forced to go partially or completely inside the bone.
The tooth will be examined with x-rays and should be allowed to re-erupt for 6 months
Fractured
Tooth
Pain which is either severe or mild according to the extent of fracture
If the nerve is not involved; simple filling or laminate will be enough
If the nerve is involved; all the vital tissues will be removed under anaesthesia.
Fractured
Root
Pain and tooth mobility
Tooth will be splinted for about 3 months
Bleeding
Bleeding following extraction or following any surgical procedures may continue causing psychological shock; you may feel unable to do anything, please follow this points
-
First you should not be shocked.
-
You should apply pressure to the area by using gauze or wet tea bags 15-20 minutes. Wet tea bags are preferred as it contains tannic acid which has haemostatic effect.
-
If bleeding does not stop Vitamin K ampoules may be used either as intramuscular injection or the ampoule may be applied directly to the wound (A piece of cotton is wetted with the vitamin K and applied with some pressure to the bleeding area for 10 minutes).
-
If excessive bleeding continues please contact your dentist.
