Dental Clinic
Any dental procedure that improves the appearance of a patient's smile can be considered part of Cosmetic Dentistry. This includes whitening, veneers, white fillings, crowns, bridges and white braces.
1) DENTAL WHITENING
Involves soaking teeth in a liquid that penetrates the tooth structure and dissolves everything that is not part of it, the result is that the tooth is left with its natural white color.
Advantages
-
Dental whitening is a relatively safe procedure that usually results in a really nice white smile.
-
Dental whitening makes you feel more comfortable in all situations
-
The dental whitening rubber covers can be used again with fresh dental whitening material if you have the desire to freshen up your teeth.
-
Dental whitening is not permanent; it could be repeated later depending on color degree reached.
Disadvantage
The primary disadvantage that might result from dental whitening is tooth sensitivity to hot and cold. If this happens MIDC will desensitize your teeth for two weeks using a professional strength fluoride. The dental whitening procedure is again resumed with a four hour per day schedule.
Procedures
-
The first step is to make sure that there is nothing wrong with your teeth.
-
Impressions are taken of the upper and lower teeth then teeth replicas are made that are exactly the same as the patient's mouth.
-
Very precise clear rubber covers (either ready made or lab constructed) are then fit to the patient's teeth extremely well.
-
The dentist then provides the patient with detailed instructions on how to use the dental whitening covers and whitening materials.
-
The patient then places a small amount of the dental whitening material into the covers and wears them for approximately four hours per day for two days.
-
If there are no problems the patient then wears the covers for eight hours while sleeping for one week or more according to the extent of discoloration and the degree of whitening needed.
Advanced MIDC Whitening procedures
-
offers the most advanced whitening procedures that can be done in the office and is called Chair Side Whitening.
-
This procedure doesn’t require impressions and no long periods of wearing the
rubber covers. -
Simply the procedure may require either one or more visits each may take from 30 minutes to one hour.
2) LAMINATE VENEERS
Veneers are tooth colored sheets plates or foils made of composite or porcelain that bond with a special technique onto the flat surfaces of a tooth
Indications and Advantages.
-
Reshape malformed teeth and lengthen short teeth.
-
Close unwanted gaps (spaces) in-between the teeth.
-
Cover stains to whiten discolored teeth.
-
Connect or splint several teeth together.
-
Don't require anaesthesia (Composite laminates).
-
Eliminate the need of crowns to repair badly shaped teeth
Types
A >> Direct (Composite) laminate:
Fabricated directly in the patient mouth at a single visit with no anaesthesia as it usually requires minimal or no tooth reduction (grinding)
B >> Indirect (Porcelain) Laminates:
Fabricated indirectly in the dental laboratory and requires more than one visit. Anaesthesia may be needed because porcelain veneers needs more teeth reshaping than composite laminates; also an impression will be made for laboratory work.
Procedures
-
The flat tooth surface is etched with phosphoric acid to create microscopic pores all over the etched surface.
-
In case of porcelain the surface is usually prepared at first, impression is taken for porcelain fabrication while the etching is done at a second visit.
-
A plastic liquid (bonding agent) is then brushed into these pores of the etched surface and the bonding agent is made to harden using a dental curing light.
-
Regular dental composite or pre-fabricated porcelain laminate can now permanently bond onto this plastic surface.
3) SCALING AND POLISHING
There are many bacteria that live in your mouth. When you eat, some of the food is digested by these bacteria and they form a sticky colorless film that coats the surface of your teeth.
This film is called dental plaque. If left un-cleaned, plaque will harden to form a hard white coating called calculus (tartar) which is then become dark or even black. Bacteria live in the calculus and secrete toxins and waste products that irritate, inflame and swell your gum with subsequent bad appearance.
Once Calculus has formed on the surfaces of our teeth, they become impossible to remove with normal brushing.
We will remove all the soft and hard food deposits by using Ultrasonic Vibrating Toolswhich is painless and requires no injections; finally your teeth will be polished with a special rotary brushes and paste or with powdered water sprays.
