A dead tooth clarifies itself by being discolored (dark) or turns black because of the rotting soft tissues inside it (blood vessels, nerves and blood).

Once a tooth dies it will never return to life again. The content of the tooth liquefies, rots and seriously endanger the patient's health.

It may remain with no symptoms at all for years but it often becomes obvious when something happens that runs the patient's immune system down, such as common cold attacks, psychological depression, bacterial infections, etc….

1) CAUSES

Tooth decay, Trauma, Deep dental fillings, Gum disease and Tumors.

2) COMPLICATIONS

Definitely, you will keep the dead tooth as there are no symptoms or pain, but remember that the brain is only about 5 cm away.

  • A dead tooth becomes brittle and can either, split into two pieces, or pieces of it can fracture over time.

  • The bacteria and rotted material inside the tooth may infect the surrounding bone result in abscess or cyst formation especially if the patient immunity is dropped down.

  • Facial swelling, asymmetrical face and deviated nose may occur as a result of growing asymptomatic large cyst.

  • Death of adjacent teeth due to pressure of enlarging cyst.

3) TREATMENT

  • Tooth extraction

  • Root canal treatment
